A few other facts, if you know anything that you think should be included on this page, please do send it to us.

Most Common Pub Name

The Bay Horse is without a doubt the most popular pub name within York. With a total of 8 pubs listed on York Pub Guide so far, it's nearest rivals are The Cross Keys and Blacksmiths Arms, both with a pathetic 5.

York CAMRA Pub of the year

The Ackhorne

The 2001 York CAMRA pub of the year is The Ackhorne on St. Martins Lane. Also a popular with York Pub Guide visitors! For more information on York CAMRA visit their web site at www.yorkcamra.free-online.co.uk

Smallest Pub

The Blue Bell

The smallest pub in York is apparently the grade II listed Blue Bell on Fossgate. As well being the smallest it seems to be the only pub with Blue in the title which has a bright red exterior!

Graham HughesSmallest Barman

Without a doubt, the most interesting fact on this page, sent to us by Mark Scott. The smallest barman in York, who also worked at the smallest pub, is Graham Hughes.

Graham, 34, volunteered to help out at the Blue Bell in York when the 200-year-old pub was hit by a staff shortage. Graham, a regular drinker at the pub, said: “I have pulled a lot of pints but not too many shorts. It has been a good laugh.”

York's Oldest Pub

The hardest piece of accurate information to obtain since half the pubs in York claim to be the oldest. If anyone has any factual information regarding this I'd love to receive it.
